I have been thinking of the grades my son have been getting in school for the past several months. The thing about it is that I think he has been having trouble with his letters and sounds. His teacher told me about some phonics software that I should consider buying. And I have thought about it too. I’m willing to do what it takes to make my son improve on his phonics, and if his teacher suggested it, then it must be something worth trying out. For example, Mormons have lots of potlucks, and it is part of Mormon culture to have things such as green jello salad with carrot shavings in it. No one really knows where this got started, but it was most likely in the 70s, in my opinion. Another aspect of Mormon culture that actually does have root in mormon doctrine is that of getting married at a relatively young age. Mormon doctrine teaches that families are eternal and that we have a responsibility to bring children into the world and into righteous families, so many Mormons get married in their twenties.

When I was a little girl, we were visiting my grandma with my whole family when my exmormon aunt joked that she was going to kidnap me and my sister and take us to her apartment. We didn’t think she really would, but she did. We laughed the whole way there and were a little bummed when my parents came to get us. We were having too much fun. That’s maybe the second time I remember spending any special time with my exmormon aunt because she had her own children soon after that. It’s crazy how now her children are having children. Where has the time gone?

I just got an e-mail that my friend Phyllis is dying of cancer. She has been fighting it so hard and was hardly even admitting she was in stage 4. I am heartbroken to find out that we better hurry and visit her before it’s too late. Most likely she won’t even be awake when we go see her. I’m so sad. I have faith in jesus christ that everything is going to be OK. I have faith that Phyllis will be with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, but I want my friend here with me, to share her positive outlook more with us.

Last night my gay mormon friend was cracking up because she had asked if we wanted to come home early and have her leave after our date as my husband and I were flirting with each other. My high school counselor always told me that the medical field would be an excellent choice for a career. She told me that it was a field that would never be obsolete as long as there were people who needed to be taken care of. After doing my own research, I found out that job growth for dental assistants has never been better. Since this is the field that I wanted to go into, this information just solidified my choice. I have now been in the field for ten years and could not be happier. I owe my counselor a big hug for steering me in the right direction.
