Using High Quality Flap Wheels Can Really Help You Out

May 7th, 2011 . by admin

Flap Wheel Sanders used on grinders are rotating tools that can help woodcarvers and other woodworkers. Their name comes from the strips (or flaps) of abrasive material that they have, spreading out from a central hub. Fastening the flaps to the hub involves various methods; the most common is adhesive for bonding flaps together and to the hub. Flap wheels have many uses that include de-nibbing, edge breaking, proper stain application, and sanding. Using flap wheels for sanding instead of doing it manually can reduce the time and effort spent on this task. Used for sanding items with contours or profiles, these tools are especially useful and effective. The flexibility of flap wheels lets them handle fine sanding without putting burns or white lines on an item’s finish. Since flap wheels are designed to give consistent results, using them for sanding will produce output with impressive quality.
